Action Figures vs Toy Trucks

Action Figures vs Toy Trucks
By Victor Epand

Two of the most popular toy items for little boys are action figures and toy trucks or cars. If they were to see one of those items under a Christmas tree, they would most likely freak out with excitement and start playing with them immediately. It is true; action figures and toy trucks are a hit with young boys. But which one is more popular than the other?

An action figure is a plastic figurine of a character, often from a movie, comic book, video game, or television program. These action figures usually are marketed towards little boys.

One category of action figures that is always in high demand is the superhero action figure. Some superheroes such as Superman, Batman and Spiderman are perennial favorites, while the popularity of others goes dormant until the next major motion picture remake.

With the latest installment of the mega-popular Spiderman movies, Spiderman and his mixture of villains appear to be in power over the superhero action figure market for the moment.

With a popular animated series and movie, Batman is also a favorite action figure. The oldest superhero of the bunch, Superman, has been slowly but surely making a comeback.

With a popular Superman-themed television series and a major motion picture on the way, it is safe to say that Superman action figures will never stray far from the top of the list.

Males seem to have a natural attraction to vehicles. With that in mind, young boys love playing with toy cars. They obviously can't drive a real car, but they can definitely pretend they can if they had a toy truck they could ride on. On the other hand, if the boy is a speedy one, he'll thoroughly enjoy playing with a radio-controlled car.

With that, they can go as fast as they want! Though sometimes derided by users of more expensive and sophisticated hobby-grade equipment, toy R/C is an excellent way to teach a youngster basic vehicle control and to hopefully spark his interest in the hobby.

Next time you are out shopping for a present for a boy who is age 8 or younger; do not hesitate to get him an action figure. Action figures are a slightly better hit than toy vehicles. However, no matter the popularity level, either or both of these toy items are highly recommended for young boys. Now you know what to get them for their next birthday or for Christmas.

Collecting Action Figures - What's Behind This Modern Day Craze

Collecting Action Figures - What's Behind This Modern Day Craze
By Carl M Baker

Remember when you were a kid and your mom, dad, uncle, aunt or grandparent would take you to the toy store or some other leading big-box department store. As you rush towards the action figure aisle, your heart speeding in fervour as you make your means to this supernatural toy of imaginativeness.

Now a lot of men still might purchase an action figure or two sporadically. Action figures today have become so detailed, so artistic and so coveted. These so-called "toys" remind us of our freewheeling youth. I personally have purchased around 16 action figures in the past year.

Athlete Action Figures

What I'm really into, just like so many other grown men, are action figures associated to professional athletes. The detail in some of these pieces of new art are spectacular.

They have a team jersey down to every tone of color. Currently manufacturers of action figures actually make licencing arrangements with companies who sponsor a specific athlete and professional sports teams. These are reflected in some action figures as well.

I am a massive professional ice hockey fan, and really am a great fan of Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin has an endorsement deal with CCM, wearing a CCM helmet, gloves, hockey pants and skates. The Ovechkin doll that I have has all the logos in place just like the real Alexander Ovechkin when he takes the ice in the Verizon Center.

Sci-Fi Action Figures

With the revitalization of sci-fi films and television, sci-fi action figures have also been best-selling. This movement started out with the successful Star Wars franchise films. These love affairs with the figures were rekindled when the original trilogy and the new prequel trilogy were released about a decade ago.

Original action figures were produced in celebration of these films. However this time the dolls were made with such detail and preciseness, it made accumulating these figures by grownups much more acceptable than in the past.

The original marketplace for these toys were youngsters, nonetheless this higher level of detail can only be prized by the eye of an adult. This tendency retains today with other sci-fi characters of today's pop culture.

Todd McFarlane Toys

Comic book creator Todd McFarlane has created a toy company that was really at the forefront of this new breed of action figure explosion. Being an artist of sci-fi and comic books he understood the detail that can be crammed into these action figures.

Collecting Action Figures

When garnering action figures, you should collect as if they are fine pieces of art. You must not collect for investing purposes instead for the admiration of these works of art. If you like what you see then buy it.

Even if it does not go up in value you can still delight in the aesthetics of your action figure. If you ever desired to collect as an investing opportunity then there are a few things you should know.

When a new film or television series is premiered, especially if it is a sci-fi base project, then chances are action figures will be manufactured in alignment with the premiere of these motion pictures or television series.

If this is the case, eBay has hundreds of vendors who deal these investment objects before the film or series premieres. Normally the price for these items will be modest and are fitting for purchase.

After the sci-fi movie or series is premiered, usually the cost of these action figures will rise. Especially if the film becomes an unanticipated commercial success. This is great because once the motion picture is popular there will be more need for their affiliated action figures however supply will already have been dried up.

This is where, you as a collector or investor can turn a profit big time. Merely trade your action figure back on eBay. It's that easy. I've been doing it for quite a while, with what I regard pieces of artistic creation that I no longer love or treasure any longer.

Wishing you the very best in your action figure investment opportunities and this incomparable form of art collecting.

Collecting Marx Toy Soldiers, Action Figures and Playsets - Classic Toys from Louis Marx and Company

Collecting Marx Toy Soldiers, Action Figures and Playsets - Classic Toys from Louis Marx and Company
By Jenni Kerala

Do an instant survey about things collectors usually collect, and for sure, you would come up with a list that would include toy soldiers and playsets from toy manufacturer, Louis Marx and Company.

No wonder about it. Collecting Marx action figures is one of the most popular hobbies and past times of some people, especially those men who spent their childhood years playing with Marx toys.

If little girls were so fond of their Barbie dolls and their mini-kitchen playsets, little boys back in the day were into playing with toy soldiers made by Marx. To some, the action toys are trademarks of being a boy, underlining adventuring, bravery and extreme physical abilities.

It would be noteworthy to know the origin of Marx action figures. To begin with, the toy soldiers were designed and manufactured by toy maker Louis Marx and Company.

The firm was one of the oldest toy companies and was primed to become the world's largest toy manufacturer in the 1950s. Louis Marx was the man behind the company and the toy soldiers, action figures and playsets.

He was a United States-born toy assembler who had been into toy making since his youth. He started his career by working as staff, and later as a manager, at Ferdinand Strauss, a maker of mechanical toys.

Louis entered the US Army as a private soldier in 1918. Two years after, he resumed private citizenship and revived his career in toy making.

Louis was so attached to his military life that he named all his sons from the names of the generals he knew. He later proceeded to establish Louis Marx and Company and made a mark by having his own trademark figures.

In the 1930s to early 1940s, the toys were made of metal alloys. But because the onset of World War II prompted the US and European countries to spare metal reserves to give way to the manufacturing of military weapons, plastic versions of the action figures started entering the market in the late 1940s.

Collecting Marx action figures certainly is one of the most interesting and worthwhile hobbies people can do today. Though the action toys can be considered novelty objects nowadays, they surely are still hot collectibles.

Some say that people would never grow tired of the toy soldiers and playsets as long as there is always thrilling battles to be waged between the forces of good and evil.
